Puyin Bai

Clarinet

 

Puyin received a master’s degree in clarinet performance in 2016 from the University of Kansas.  As an active young clarinetist, Puyin Bai is dedicated to both providing excellent performances to his audiences and promoting classical music to the general public.  As a performing musician, he has won many international and national competitions including the prestigious Coleman Chamber Music Competition in 2014, the National Music Teachers’ Association Music Competition in 2013, and the Chamber Music Foundation of New England Competition in 2014.

 

Puyin has performed twice in Carnegie Hall in New York City, both as the principal clarinet of the University of Kansas (KU) Wind Ensemble and as a member of the Wakarusa Trio.  His playing can be heard on Kansas Public Radio and several recordings under the Naxos label featuring him as the principal clarinet of the KU Wind Ensemble.  Besides his performing career, Puyin is also very passionate about teaching music and bringing classical music to a wider audience.  He has performed in many outreach concerts at local schools, churches, and retirement homes.  Puyin currently resides in La Mirada, California with his wife Joanna.
